Kids are picky eaters.
Oh, how I dispise that sentence. It is drilled into our brains that kids are picky eaters before we even have kids!
Sure, some kids are picky, but I truly believe its more than that. They are learning all these new tastes and flavors and just don’t know what they like and don’t like, these are their food experimentation years. Imagine being a two-year-old or a five-year-old seeing a red beet for the first time. Some will probably instantly say they don’t like it before you can get it on their plate, but odds are they are overwhelmed by the new food that just appeared on their plate.
In our house we have a rule, you take a bite of every type of food on the plate. If after that first bite (and a real bite none of that 1/4 of a millimeter bites kids are skilled at) he really doesn’t like that taste he doesn’t have to eat it.
Luckily I have a weird child that love veggies. He will eat green beans, salads, and broccoli every day if I let him. But there are things he doesn’t like, for example, Brussel Sprouts, and yet I still make them and serve him some. For me that one bite is a victory. After serving it three times he ate half his serving even though he ‘doesn’t like it’.
There will always be foods they don’t like, I mean as adults there are foods we don’t like. But I do believe in exposing to them to everything and getting them to try it a few times and see if there is any change.
Now we do have those tried and tested go-to meals that I would call kid friendly. These are the meals I make when im in a hurry or we have family or friends over with kids that i don’t know what they eat.
So here are 4 of my kid-friendly Instant Pot meals. Feel free to print the recipe card and try it out! If you love it, or even if you don’t, let me know! I love to hear what everyone thinks of them.
- All-In Penne Pasta
- Bourbon-Glazed Meatballs
- Chicken Potato Rice
- Cauliflower Mac n Cheese ( I do a variation of this one where I mix in additional macaronis for the kids that need to see the pasta in the Mac n cheese.)
Happy Cooking!
